Download the Update File
Ensure you have an official software update file from SMG saved on your smart device before running this process (e.g. “2026_01_02_gaia_software_update_4c5f856.tar.gz”).
Connect to the GAIA-FLD unit
Connect to the GAIA-FLD user interface with your device (it’s recommended to connect through USB for a faster update process). Navigate to the ‘Update’ tab in the menu.

Check current version
On the update page, you can see the current version of your software, which is a combination of the build date and commit ID shown on this page

Upload update file
To upload the new file, press the ‘Browse’ button and select the update file you want to apply.
A progress bar showing the upload progress should appear. This may take a few minutes depending on the connection speed to the GAIA.

Once the upload is complete, the unit will automatically begin extracting the update. You can see the progress in the command window. This will take about 2 minutes.

Rebooting into the new version
Once the update has been extracted, press the ‘Reboot’ button to reboot the GAIA-FLD unit into the new version.

A short reboot command should appear in the bottom right, then the GAIA-FLD unit will reboot.

The following message will appear while the unit is rebooting. If you refresh the page while the reboot is occurring, you will get an error but the reboot will still continue uninterrupted, you will just need to refresh again once the reboot is complete - indicated by a single short beep from the GAIA.

Finalise Update
Once the reboot has completed, the page will update to show two options.
If the update has applied correctly, press ‘Finalise’. If there are any issues, press ‘Revert’, or put the GAIA-FLD unit into suspend mode and power it back up again to restore the previous version.

Once the finalise is complete, you should see the Finalising command show as Done and the update page return to its default state.
