Next-Generation Gravity Sensing for Defence and Security.
Introducing a new generation of compact, robust and stabilised gravimeters for defence applications. SMG’s MEMS gravity technology enables new capabilities in threat detection, reconnaissance, subsurface mapping and passive GNSS-denied navigation.
By measuring small variations in the Earth’s gravity field, SMG systems can support the detection of tunnels, voids, bunkers and other hidden structures, while also opening new opportunities for gravity-aided navigation on autonomous land, maritime and subsea platforms.

Advanced Portable Gravimetry for Defence Operations
SMG is pioneering compact MEMS gravimetry for defence and security applications. Our passive, high-precision gravity sensors detect small changes in the local gravity field, helping identify hidden structures, voids, tunnels and other subsurface features.
Unlike active sensing methods, gravity measurement does not emit a signal. This makes it well suited to discreet operation, hazardous environments and missions where passive sensing is preferred. SMG’s compact and stabilised technology also creates new opportunities for gravity-aided navigation in GNSS-denied environments.

Battlefield Deployability
Compact, robust and portable gravity sensing designed for use in challenging field environments, including remote, hazardous and infrastructure-limited locations.
Passive Operation
Gravity sensing is passive and does not require an emitted radar, acoustic or electromagnetic signal, supporting discreet operation where detectability and electronic signature are key concerns.
Intelligent Data Integration
Gravity data can be integrated with mapping, geospatial analysis and AI-supported decision tools to improve interpretation, mission planning and operational awareness.
Multi-Domain Versatility
Applicable across defence, security and resilience missions, including subsurface threat detection, border security, infrastructure assessment, reconnaissance and future autonomous navigation.
Technology Comparison.
A Different Way to Detect What Is Hidden
SMG gravimeters do not replace every existing detection method. Instead, they provide a complementary sensing capability based on a different physical principle: gravity responds to density contrast.
Where GPR, seismic and electromagnetic methods rely on emitted signals, induced fields or ground coupling, gravity sensing is passive. This makes it valuable in environments where low signature operation, deeper targets, difficult ground conditions or independent confirmation are important.
Passive Operation
Gravity sensing does not emit a signal, supporting discreet operation where electronic or acoustic signature must be minimised.
Subsurface Density Mapping
Sensitive to density contrast, gravity can help detect tunnels, voids, bunkers, cavities and other hidden structures.
Complementary Sensing
Gravity data can be combined with GPR, seismic, magnetic, EM, imagery and geospatial intelligence to improve confidence in interpretation.
Field Deployability
SMG’s MEMS technology enables compact, robust and stabilised gravimetry suitable for practical deployment in challenging environments.
Operational Awareness
Gravity sensing can support reconnaissance, route assessment, infrastructure security, border monitoring and threat detection by revealing features that may not be visible at the surface.

Operational Use Cases.
Bunker & Tunnel Detection
Identify underground structures, voids, storage areas and concealed movement routes through passive gravity surveys.
Route & Area Assessment
Support safer movement and mission planning by detecting subsurface anomalies beneath roads, tracks and operational areas.
Border & Perimeter Security
Detect concealed tunnels, unauthorised subsurface activity and hidden infrastructure near sensitive sites or boundaries.
Autonomous Navigation
Support gravity-aided navigation for autonomous land, maritime and subsea platforms operating where GNSS is unavailable, denied or unreliable.
